Week of Feb. 8th

This week we will be reading the story Firefighter and working on words with the suffixes ly, ful, er, and or.  We will also be working on the comprehension skill of main idea.  This week in Social Studies we will be celebrating Chinese New Year and learning about Rosa Parks.  Pronouns will be our focus in Language Arts.  In art we will be making some Heart Art and learning about Jim Dine.  In math we will continue to work on measurement focusing on perimeter and area.  Thursday we will have our Valentine's Day party!  The spelling test will be Thursday.  There will be no school on Friday due to parent teacher conferences.  I hope to see you either Monday or Thursday at your scheduled time.

Week of Feb. 1st

This week we will be reading Helen Keller and the Big Storm while working on words with oo, ue,ew, and ui sounds.  We will also focus on fact and opinion.  Groundhog's Day will be celebrated Tuesday.  We will also be learning about an artist named Jim Dine who was famous for painting hearts.  We will paint hearts too!  In Social Studies we will be learning about Harriet Tubman & Rosa Parks.  In Language Arts we will be writing a response paragraph and working on adverbs.  In Math we are working on measurement.  It will be a busy week.

Week of Jan. 25th

This week we will be reading the story I Like Where I Am while working on the diphthongs oi and oy.  We will also be working on theme and plot.  In Social Studies we will be learning about American Symbols and directions.  We will finish up fractions in Math and start a unit on measurement.  Adverbs will be studied in Language Arts.  Please sign up online for a conference with me.  Information went home tonight on how to do this!

Week of Jan. 11th

We will be reading the story The Lifecycle of a Pumpkin while working on varient vowels, fact and opinion.  We will be writing friendly persuasive letters this week as well as working on adjectives.  In math we will continue to work on geometry.  In Science we will be spending time learning about the moon, sun, and our solar system.  We will start working on map skill in Social Studies.

Week of Dec. 7th

This week we will be reading about George Washington Carver, working on words with comparative endings and cause and effect.  We will be working on the verbs am, is, are, and was.  The students will be writing about an animal for their 2nd quarter writing assessment.  In Science we will be learning about heat, light, and sound energy.  In math we will continue to work on addition and subtraction with regrouping.

Week of Nov. 23rd.

This is going to be a very fun week.  We will be baking pumpkin pie, creating Native American art with clay and continuing to learn about the pilgrims.  We will also start subtraction with regrouping.  On Tuesday we will be having a fall party in the afternoon.  Thanks so much to the parents who are planning this.  There will be no spelling test this week.

Week of Nov. 9th

This week we will be reading the story Dear Juno while working on the long o sound spelled with o, oa, and ow.  We will also be working on drawing conclusions.  In Language Arts we will be finishing our narrative paragraphs and working on verbs with singular and plural nouns.  In math we will begin learning how to add a 2 digit number with regrouping.  We will take some time on Nov. 11th to learn about Veteren's Day and why we celebrate this holiday.  The week will be busy and we continue to practice for out upcoming music program.  It will be a great week.
