Week of November 25th
This week we will be baking pumpkin pies and writing how to make a pumpkin pie. While we are learning about turkeys, we will work on fact and opinion. We will continue to learn about the pilgrims and Native Americans and create some pottery or jewelry like the Native Americans did. In Math we will continue to subtract 2 digit numbers with regrouping.

Week of Nov. 18
This week we will be reading Anansi Goes Fishing while working on compound words and cause and effect. In Language Arts we will be working on verbs for the present, past, and future. In math we will continue to work on 2 digit addition with regrouping. Social Studies will include learning about Native Americans and Pilgrims. At the end of the week we will be having a meal like the pilgrims did on the Mayflower.

Week of Nov. 11th
Next week in reading, we will be discussing the
many different ways we can communicate. The students will be reading a
realistic fiction story called Dear Juno. We will be working on
the comprehension skill of drawing conclusions. We will work on the
comprehension strategy of visualizing. In phonics and spelling we will be
focusing on words with the long o sound ( spelled o, oa, or ow). In
language arts we will work on singular and plural nouns. We will also
continue working on writing a narrative paragraph. We will learn about
Veteran's Day on Monday. Second graders will continue learning about
Native Americans next week during social studies. We will especially
focus on the Plains Natives who used to live in our region. During math
class we will learn to add two-digit numbers to two-digit numbers, regrouping
as needed. Have a great weekend. Please keep encouraging your child
to read at least 15 minutes every night and study their spelling words

Week of November 4th
We will be reading an animal fantasy called Pearl and Wagner Two Good Friends. We will be working on author's purpose as well as long e spellings with an e, ee, ea or y. In Language Arts wil will be working on verbs and narrative paragraphs. In Science we will finish up animals learning about animal life cycles. In Math we are working on subtraction and mental math.
